Our Story
Glendonbrook Wines

History

In the early 1830's the pioneering Dr. Henry Lindeman(Lindman's Wines) planted his Cawarra vineyards in the Gresford area.  During the 19th century the district was renowned for the quality and quantity of its agricultural and horticultural produce, especially for its wines.
Now, over 170 years later, winemaking is making a resurgence here and Glendonbrook's vision is to revitalise what is the oldest wine growing region in the Hunter Valley.

The Winemaker

Chief winemaker is Geoff Broadfield, who has been making wine in the Hunter Valley for over 20 years.  Geoff began his winemaking career at top Australian wineries Lindemans, Allanmere and Wandin Valley Estate and over the years his wines have been highly awarded for their quality with 9 trophies and over 250 gold, silver and bronze medals. Geoff has continued his illustrious career with even more trophies and medals since crafting wines for Glendonbrook.

Equipment

The wine making machinery, from refrigeration equipment to the press, is state-of-the-art, which allows the winemaking team to have optimum control and flexibility in handling the high quality fruit that is received.  Maturation of the wines is completed in a blend of French, Hungarian and American oak 300 litre ' hogs head ' barrels.

The Vineyard

Seven kilometres north east of East Gresford on the Bingleburra Road is the beautiful 1500 acre property Bingleburra.  In 1998 a 30 acre vineyard was planted to Shiraz, Chambourcin, and Verdelho vines, with the first grapes lovingly hand-picked in the 2001 vintage. After seven vintages the quality of the grapes is now showing maturity adding to the longevity of our wines.

The vineyard is run on sustainable agriculture principles, with mulching of the vine rows to provide nutrients, improve soil structure and inhibit weed growth - an example of the ' low impact ' philosophy practised. At full maturity, the vineyard could produce 120 tonnes of fruit before cropping to quality, with each berry expressing the unique flavour characteristics of the East Gresford soils and microclimate. These, in turn, will be made into premium wines of quality and distinction, ready for wine lovers all over the globe.
